Small Groups
Small Group Life
At the Reseda boulevard Church of Christ, our small group mission is to connect people relationally in small groups of six to twelve people for the purpose of growing in Christ likeness, loving one another, and producing fully functional and devoted followers of Christ. We are committed to help everyone find a small group where they can connect to God and to membership of the Reseda congregation.

Get Connected
If you would like to get connected relationally to a small group meeting near you or within your community, review the weekly schedule of small group meetings to locate a group meeting nearest to you or one with which you would prefer to connect.
A Diversity of Small Groups: there are a number of group types from which to choose. Small groups are identified by a defining characteristic. Some groups may be identified as follows:
- Neighborhood Small Groups – Groups often meet together according to the region, city or town where the members live. Consider joining a small group of people who live near you. Neighborhood small groups are a great way to build relationships while encouraging one another on your spiritual journeys.
- Special Interest Small Groups – Groups often meet together according to shared affinities, such as gender, marital stage, activities, hobbies, work, areas of service, or major life events.
- Youth Small Groups – Some youth prefer to meet with their peers. The youth small groups are gender specific and are led by spiritually mature adult leaders who are spiritually gifted in facilitating ministry among youth.
- Intergenerational Family Groups - Most of the family groups are Intergenerational Small Groups that minister to the total family. These groups provide for a Kid’s Slot in which one of the group members facilitate ministry to the children.
- Support Groups – Some small groups are designed for members with special support and counseling needs. These groups are based on a typical support group model.
Defining Characteristics of a Small Group – We define a small group as a group of people who meet regularly to intentionally pursue full devotion to Christ and are served by a leader who can help them achieve their purpose. The following are descriptive of our Small Groups. They are…
- Nurture Groups – small groups may be described as nurture groups inasmuch as they are structured to provide the necessary elements for members to become fully functional and devoted followers of Christ.
- Holistic Groups – small groups may be described as holistic ministry groups in which all five purposes of the church are fulfilled.
- Life Groups – small groups may be described as life groups inasmuch as all aspects of congregational life and ministry are group based. Group members are charged to facilitate Love, Involvement, Fellowship, and Evangelism.
Small Groups of Purpose: Our small groups are designed to be microcosms of our church. Therefore, they are structured around the five purposes of the church, which are:
- Worship – each group conducts a devotional time of praise and worship allowing group participants to express praise and experience prayer.
- Fellowship – each group meeting consist of a social time for building relationships. In addition, each group ministry conducts social events designed to connect relationally with others and to enable group members to experience community and strengthen relationships.
- Discipleship – small groups provide the relational environment for spiritual growth to take place. Group members are assigned practices of ministry that facilitate spiritual growth.
- Ministry – small groups are designed with the express purpose of empowering members to serve. Group members are challenged weekly to minister to the needs of each other and the needs of the church body as a whole.
- Mission – Every small group is an instrument in carrying out the P.E.A.C.E. initiatives of the congregation. Groups are encouraged to plan and carry out one of the five P.E.A.C.E. objectives within the community on a monthly or quarterly basis.
Small groups provide the optimal place for…
- Transformation – “Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” 1 John 2:6
- Community - “Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-25, NLT
- Compassion – “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
- Mission – The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field. Matthew 9:37-38
