Our Purposes

Worship – The primary purpose of the church is the same as the fundamental purpose given to every believer.  it is to love God with all of our mind, soul, and body.  This is the aim of worship–to express our love for God.  To worship God is to magnify Him.  It is to exalt His name and to celebrate His majesty.

Fellowship – The church have been commissioned by the Lord to make disciples of the nations and baptized them into fellowship with God and His people.  This is purpose of connecting people relationally for the purpose of discovering membership in the body of Christ, His church.  Fellowship is initiated by making followers as Jesus did.  We make disciples of the unbelieving world by first connecting with them relationally.  In Scripture, this purpose is described as the ministry of reconciliation.  God was in Christ “reconciling the world to Himself and He has given to us the ministry of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:18).  Our means of fulfilling this purpose is through small groups.  We promote large group events for the express purpose of introducing unconnected people to small group fellowships.

Discipleship – The purpose of connecting people relationally is not only for discovering membership in the body of Christ, but also for the expressed purpose of maturing them spiritually, which means “teaching them to observe all things” the Lord has commanded of them (Matthew 28:20).  Spiritual growth is relational.  It can only take place in the context of one another relationships.  Our means of fulfilling this purpose is through Spiritual Growth Campaigns, seminar training that provides members with tools and resources for spiritual growth, and uplifting worship assemblies that place emphasis on behavioral teaching and preaching from the biblical text.

Ministry - the purpose of discipleship is ministry.  We produce fully functional disciples for the purpose of service, which is to fulfill the  Great Commandment that says, We are to “Love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself.”  We demonstrate our love for God by how we express our love for each other.  We use the term “ministry” to refer to “the demonstrations of love toward members of the body of Christ.”  This purpose is distinguished from the purpose of mission in that mission is deeds directed outwardly, whereas ministry is directed inwardly to other believers.

Missions – The crowing purpose of the church is missions because it represents the highest expressions of God’s love, the love of others.  Missions grow out of church maturity, which means experiencing the fulness of God’s love (agape).  God’s love enables belivers to become leaders and disciplers of others.  God’s love provides the church with the capacity to love those represent “otherness” in their beliefs and values.  It enables the church to embrace those we do not agree with in order to affect them by love and ultimately infect them with God’s truth.
